In 1999, I had a major restoration done. This was a major effort and is documented on the following page. Click here for latest restoration information and documentation
My 1965 Series IV Alpine was purchased in the summer of 1970 in Fort Worth, Texas from an airline pilot who was the second owner. Either he or the previous owner had replaced the Solex with twin Stromberg 150CDs from a Series V, otherwise it was stock. It had 29,000 miles on it and the VIN is B9403872. It was Carnival Red with a black interior with red piping . This car was to be used as the car for me to commute to work and was, and has been always, considered to be a "work" car to be run every day.
Why an Alpine? The reason is that five years before, I had purchased a BRG Series I when I was in college. When I got engaged, I had to sell it and I always thought about getting another one. It had a neat white tape stripe, which is why I added that to my Series IV as well. For pictures of my original Series I Alpine, click here
This Series IV has been a faithful car ever since I bought it and has been used continously as a work car for 28 straight years!
I have driven this car in Texas, drove to Chicago and used it there for four years every day and then drove it to Cherry Hill, NJ, where I've lived and have driven the Alpine daily for the past 21 years. True, I don't put on much mileage, since I've always commuted with rapid transit and only drove it to the station. I average about 2,500 miles per year. It now has about 96,000 miles on it and is going strong.
I had a partial restoration job done about 18 years ago. I had a valve job and had the lower body panels replaced and repainted with a Dupont Imron red paint that closely matched the Carnival Red of the original. I also replaced the seat covers and had a white stripe painted on. I also bought a Parrish Plastics removable hardtop.
I joined the old Sunbeam Car Club in the late 70's and Alpines East in the early 80's. I haven't been real active, but have paid dues continuously and lurk on the Alpine listserver. I have a database file with a record of all repairs and every dollar spent on the car since I bought it.
Here are some pictures of my Alpine taken after the most recent
restoration.
